This is one of the games I'm running right now, an Apocalypse World hack for playing dark fantasy in the style of Warhammer.
The PDF has a character sheet, new basic and peripheral moves, spellcasting, and three rough character types cobbled together from AW types, Johnstone's work, and some ideas of my own. If you're familiar with AW, there's enough here to get you going if you want to try it out.
I'm pretty proud of the violence move.
Sweet! (I enjoy the EBZ nod there, too. Now we need "when you suffer nightmares/scandal/suspicion" moves to match the Wounds ones.) Character creation? Stats done in the "official" AW style (total of +3, any +2 after your first counts as +3) or something else, how many moves do characters start off with, etc?
ReplyDeleteThat violence move is hot, though, yeah.
Ah yes, you caught me. :) We are indeed testing the multiple damage-tracks idea which will probably be in Knife & Candle. I have to say, so far it's working very well.
ReplyDeleteWho decides when something is beneath you, or beyond the pale? That seems a lot like Vincent's "Things are Tough" move that is advised against.
ReplyDeleteAwesome stuff all over, with so many cool AW hack hanging around, I'm not sure anymore which one I want to play.
ReplyDeleteThere are some similarities between the violence move any my combat move in Sagas of the Icelanders, I'll probably steal your move however, it's better.
Oh and good call for using the savvyhead move as a Ritual mechanic, I've been thinking about reskinning the savvyhead as a necromancer in my own fantasy AW retool.
@Willow: We decide together when something is beneath you, beyond the pale, etc. In AW, it's a bad idea to have a mechanic like that, because everyone is essentially human and the world is a harsh place. Even the scary cannibal can be taken out with a shovel to the neck.
ReplyDeleteBut in the Warhammer world, there are definite scales of power. The immortal demon lord and the street urchin don't contend on equal footing.
Any updates or additional info (playbooks, Lores, etc.) on this? I just stumbled on Apocalypse World a few days ago and have since bought the book and been devouring it. I'm currently running a fantasy I'm thinking about porting, but Dungeon World (while it looks like a lot of fun) isn't as good of a fit as The Eye of Chaos seems to be.
ReplyDeleteNo, John, I haven't worked on it since. Probably won't get back to it any time soon. Dungeon World is really cool, though! I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI have understand your stuff previous to and you are just extremely excellent.
ReplyDeleteI truly enjoyed the top quality info you present to your visitors.
ReplyDeleteWill be back again frequently to check up on new posts.
ReplyDeleteIt was my excitement discovering your site last night.
