Keelside: The bottom of a ship. Also, generally, "below." Slang: Feeling poorly due to excess of drink or difficult circumstances. "After that night at the Silver Eel, I was keelside for a week!"
Shacklin': Vulgarity. "There's a shacklin' hole in the side of the ship!"
Juvven: Vulgarity. "Shut your juvven mouth!" Possibly related to Jove, an ancient diety, whose name is also used as an exclamation.
Grudding: Vulgarity. "The whole grudding fleet will be hunting us."
Shouldn't there be a better word for "Sky Sailors"? Skailors? Skylers?
ReplyDelete"Bell" and "Eel" sound too similar for a phonetic alphabet. I suggest replacing "Eel" with "Evening."

ReplyDeleteActually, I'd say that "Bell" and "Veil" are the two that sound too similar—as my name "Phil" is routinely misheard as "Bill", I could easily see those two words also being confused. But I agree that "Bell" and "Eel" are also similar enough to be confused.
ReplyDelete"Empire" and "Vortex" might work as alternatives, though I do like the color that "Eel" and "Veil" suggest.
